What is a horse trainer?

He is a stranger in a modern world, struggling for survival in an age of computers...

All he has to sell is his time and his talent. Other horsemen tell him better days are coming. His mother tells him that he should have done something else.

A horse trainer comes in different sizes and from different backgrounds. He is a college graduate with manure on his boots and sawdust in his hair. He is a country boy in a Cadillac. He is an athlete, a businessman, family man and showman. The kids idolize him, the girls love him, his wife tolerates him.

His days are long and pay is short. He lives a life of sleepless nights, constant travel and credit cards. His bank account hinges on victory and defeat. His best friends are also his toughest competition. The only time he is made to feel important is when he judges a horse show, and that is short lived.

A horse trainer is known for his violent temper and heart. He will battle a horse with vengeance and will handle a colt with kindness. Between these extremes of his nature, a horse trainer is consoled by the thought that he gets when he puts a foot in the stirrup and swings into the saddle on a good horse. He may be poor by some standards, but he is at the same time rich beyond compare. After all, he is a horse trainer.
