Georgia Department of Agriculture

For several years, the Georgia Department of Agriculture has had an agreement with Alabama and Florida to issue a six (6) month Event Permit to allow equine to move between these states for equine events only.  The same type agreement has now been established with several other southern states.

The Equine Interstate Event Permit will be valid for six (6) months or to the expiration of the Coggins test and will allow equine to move between approved states for show, trail rides, rodeos, etc.  The permit cannot be used in lieu of a  Coggins report for any sales or change of ownership of equine.

To apply for a permit, the applicant must submit a written request, a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection and a current Coggins test report (test for Equine Infectious Anemia) to the state department of agriculture in the state where they reside.  These documents must be original copies or certified notarized photocopies.  Applicants should allow ten (10) days to receive the permit after submission of the request.

Participating states are as follows:  Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
